GRONDBEGINSEL- sonic performance
'Grondbeginsel', which translates into 'general principle', is a location specific contemporary performance, created in collaboration with music theater maker Cassandra Onck.
Comissioned by theater production company Karavaan, based in the city of Alkmaar (the Netherlands), the performance was produced from Sep. 2018 to Dec. 2018 and shown during the Winterkaravaan Festival Dec. 27-30. 2018 as part of 4 other selected performances.
Within 'Grondbeginsel', the audience dove into an audio experience, containing the personal stories of 3 people with different backgrounds. The questions that connects them all: "How does geography shape identity? Does the notion of common identity exist in a city such as Alkmaar? ".
Using a self designed mobile speaker system, samples from conducted interviews were triggered by button-click, creating a contrast to a narrative soundscape that was simultaneously filling the space, consistently expanding and contracting the focus of the audience; a zoom-in/zoom-out into the personal stories and the bigger picture of identity manifestation.
